Also Buddy Holly, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie and Elton John. VIVA Surfers Paradise is Australasia’s largest tribute artist festival.
Rugby League The Musical

Australia’s hardest working sports satirist – Denis Carnahan – is back, bigger than ever, trying to cope with the mountain of material Rugby League has thrown at him during the “offest” off season in years. A brilliant blend of sketch comedy, stand-up comedy and musical satire, that takes aim at The Greatest Game Of All and its many colourful characters and controversies.
Gold Coast SUNS versus Adelaide Crows

See the SUNS take on Adelaide Crows for Round 17 at Metricon Stadium. The game kicks off at 7.25pm, but there will be plenty of pre-game fun including a kids zone with giant inflatables and much more!
ArtLab: Woven Jewellery
13 July, HOTA, $15
Woven Jewellery with Rebecca Ray. Craft your own woven coil earrings and make your own ropes with natural fibres and recycled plastics. Gold Coast artist Rebecca Ray will show you the ropes (see what they did there?) and share her skills of contemporary weaving and natural fibre practices. Children under eight to be accompanied by an adult (adult free with child ticket).
ASPIRE International Youth Music Festival
17 – 20 July, The Star
The ASPIRE International Youth Music Festival is a competition on a new level; attracting world-renowned adjudicators from across the globe and appealing to the best young musicians internationally. ASPIRE is a not-for-profit music festival. Surplus from the event will be donated directly to The Foundation of Student Horizons. They give disadvantaged youth the opportunity to discover the world.

An amateur production by arrangement with Origin Theatrical. Constantly shifting, twisting, beguiling and witty, this is a brilliantly compelling drama. They’d tell you more… but then they’d have to kill you.
Mental As Anything Live
19 July, Soundlounge, Currumbin $30-$35
Once upon a time, a group of art students passed themselves off as a band in order to con the local publican into giving them a gig in exchange for free beer. The deception worked better than intended with the group receiving beer in return for music and came to be known as Mental as Anything. Four decades later, they are still irritating the public with their highly listenable, idiosyncratic brand of garage pop.
The 96 Kilometre Gold Coast Kokoda Challenge
20 – 21 July, Mudgeeraba Bowls Club, $480 per team
The Gold Coast Kokoda Challenge is the toughest team endurance event in Australia. 96kms of winding tracks through the Gold Coast hinterland, 5000 metres of vertical elevation to climb (and descend!) and 13 checkpoints to get through. It’s time to prove to yourself that you can go above and beyond what you think your limits are and do something truly extraordinary.
Date Night Clay Class

Aussie Wildlife Course
24 July-11 September, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, $350
The Aussie Wildlife Course is an introductory course developed to train enthusiastic members of our community to provide emergency care for sick, injured or orphaned native wildlife. It also provides an opportunity to gain more experience and knowledge to help further employment opportunities e.g. vet nursing, zoo keeping or employment in other wildlife industries. This is an eight-week course run one evening per week.

Groundwater Country Music Festival is a free festival with international and Australian artists headlining. The event is set on stages in the streets and parks of Broadbeach next to the beach. The beachside event showcases premier country music performers on a number of outdoor stages and in venues throughout Broadbeach. The incredible line-up will feature more than 40 artists, plus roving entertainment, markets and more.
Top Dog Film Festival 2019

Salsa in the Park
28 July, The Porch, Broadwater Parklands, Free
Salsa in the Park is an event open to everyone and it is free. It is held at The Porch in Broadwater Parklands, Southport. This event is held once a month, on Sundays, between 3pm to 6pm. DJs will play a variety of Latin music to keep everyone dancing. There is a free 30 minutes lesson at 3pm. This is followed by two and a half hours of social dancing, or just sit, relax, watch and enjoy the music and dancers go about their pace.
The Young King

MTBA National Championships | Schools 2019
2-4 August, Nerang State Forest
Mountain Bike Australia in conjunction with the City of Gold Coast and Gold Coast Mountain Bike Club are pleased to present the third annual MTBA Schools National Championships. This event offers High School Students (Years 7 to 12) the opportunity to compete in three events over three days, with medals up for grabs in each event as well as students earning points for their school.
Burleigh Barbecue Championships
3-4 August, Ed Hardy Park, North Burleigh Heads Beach, Free Entry
It’s not fog you’ll see rising over Burleigh…it will be smoke from 50 of Australia’s best barbecue competition teams battling it out for the highest honour in the annual Burleigh Barbecue Championships. Using low and slow cooking and barbecue techniques across five categories – chicken, lamb, pork ribs, beef and seafood – teams will present their plates to a panel of 50 judges for tasting. The pit yard will be open to the public from 9am to 4pm daily so you can mingle with the masters, and check out some of the biggest smokers you’ve ever seen.
The Bloody Long Walk
4 August, Pizzey Park, Miami
The Bloody Long Walk is a 35km challenge owned and operated by the Mito Foundation. Walk, jog or run and enjoy spectacular scenery whilst raising vital funds to help find cures for mitochondrial disease (mito). Starting in Pizzey Park, Miami, take in breathtaking views of the Gold Coast. Walk through the National Park at Tallebudgera Creek down to Currumbin then follow the coastline back up to stunning Broadbeach. Fully supported course with checkpoints and refreshments.
Gold Coast Multicultural Festival
4 August, Southport Broadwater Parklands, Free Entry
This will be the 12th year of the annual Gold Coast Multicultural Festival – an event that the whole family can enjoy. The Festival provides an unprecedented display of culture including International music, dance, drumming, instrumentals, art and craft, food and cultural Information – with up to 65 stalls!
